Project Overview

Chemical Tower Installation

UCI was chosen by ONEOK for the pre-construction management of the removal of the existing standby amine tower and installation of a ONEOK provided tower as well as a proposed budget for the work. UCI engaged several vendors familiar with working inside the ONEOK facility and provided these costs and schedule. Meeting weekly with ONEOK engineering and operations staff UCI provided transparent costs and a risk analysis to aid ONEOK in moving the project forward. ONEOK choose to have UCI act as general contractor through the installation of the project.

Challenges included safely removing the existing tower, as it was structurally compromised, removal of an existing separation plate, and reinstalling the
new tower. All while working with the vessel fabricator to ensure a safe delivery and installation. Detailed lift plans were vetted by the team to ensure a safe installation. One of the extra measures put in place was to engage on-site safety and rescue services provided by UCI’s affiliate company, Tactical Safety Solutions.

Although the tower was a backup for operations, it was critical to have it back on-line in case it was needed in production. UCI worked with the owner, subcontractor and suppliers to ensure the facility was down for only a few weeks. Through exhaustive planning the outage of the amine tower was minimized and the new amine tower was successfully put back on-line without disruption to plant operations.
